Started in Sydney, Nova Scotia, then Ottawa, Ontario, then Jasper and Banff, Alberta, and now I live in Vernon, British Columbia.  I have been teaching skiing and snowboarding for about 6 seasons now, and when I’m not out on the mountain, I am backcountry skiing or ice climbing.  I spent many years teaching snowboarding and skiing in the Alberta Rockies where I got to work with many different people from different cultures.  During summer I love to go to music festivals, whitewater paddle and rock climb. I am currently working up to becoming a rock climbing guide in the near future, but more recently most of my summers have been taken up by Whitewater rafting guiding.

Andi Fancy

Andi has a passion for sharing her love of all snowsports with people. She aspires  to help others develop and foster a love of the outdoors and skiing.  Andi finds it hugely rewarding to help people of all ages and abilities develop  their skills and reach their potential.  Andi loves to be out skiing with a group of good friends, ripping through the trees - especially on a powder day!  Her favourite teaching moment is when a client realises that they’ve just skied a run that they never thought possible and have done it with a big smile on their face.

Angus Wooley

Qualifications: CSIA Level 3, CANSI Level 1, CSCF Level 1

Favourite Run: Kirkenheimer

I have been skiing at Silver Star since discovering it on holiday in 1999 and have been teaching since 2005. Silver Star manages to combine a large, varied ski area with a small village with a real community feel.  I took lessons from the Silver Star Snowsports School which instilled a passion for the sport and a desire to pass this on. I was fortunate enough to change our life to enable my ‘real’ job as a consultant to the offshore oil and gas industry to take a back seat for four months of the year. I enjoy teaching all levels and love to see a student’s attitude change from ‘I can’t do that’ to ‘I did that’.

Annie Thallon

Favourite Run: Gowabunga on a powder day

Originally from Cairns, Australia, Annie has always loved being outdoors.  Having travelled the world skiing and snowboarding, she has returned to Silver Star for her second season.  Whether it is skiing Putman Creek or the magic carpet, Annie’s favourite part about teaching is seeing the thrill in someone’s eyes when they learn a new skill.  Besides skiing and snowboarding, Annie also has a love for scuba diving, which she does between her winters in Canada and Falls Creek in Australia.

Bob Fleming

Having visited Europe, America, Canada, Indonesia, and of course Australia, Caitlin has found that skiing at Silver Star is the best way to live!

Carolyn Glossop

Caroyn has taught at Silver Star Resort since 2002 in the Adult SnowSports School, and has also taught at Charlotte Pass Village in Australia for many years. Carolyn has skied in Europe and throughout Canada, but loves the friendly village atmosphere and great runs at Silver Star.  Favourite skiing moment was skiing chest deep light powder for the first time, in Courmeyeur, Italy.  I enjoy all aspects of ski teaching, but I particularly love to build confidence with apprehensive skiers. To see people improving, having fun and enjoying their skiing, is a real thrill for me. To help people achieve that big smile and the feeling that they can do it...is what ski teaching is all about!

Eamon Doherty

Qualifications: CSIA Level 3, CSCF Level 2, CSIA Course Conductor

Favourite Run: Lower Big Dipper

I have been teaching for almost 20 years with the last 8 at Silver Star. My favourite moment in skiing is when you and I, working together, find the change that allows you to explore the mountain with more confidence. Whether it's skiing the green runs more confidently, moving on to the blues & blacks, or challenging the double diamonds it’s all about the fun and the learning moments. Why Lower Big Dipper you ask? This run is great for your first blue run challenge or enhancing your advanced carving skills. Either accomplishment will bring a smile to your face. Look forward to seeing you on the mountain.

Emile van Dun

Qualifications: Level 3 CSIA ski instructor Level 2 CFSA mogul coach

Favourite Run: Quicksilver bumps layered in fresh powder

Emile started skiing at a young age in Australia.  After moving to Canada and ski raced for a short time, it was suggested that he might want to check out the freestyle scene after being spotted skiing in the bumps instead of doing course inspection for a race.  After a few mogul competitions, coaching seemed the direction to take. Ski instructing gave him the opportunity to pass on his passion to anyone wanting to tackle the gnarly mountain moguls.

Favourite Run: Kirkenheimer

I started teching in Vail in 1972.  I worked for the Vernon Ski Club running and coaching the Snowmite program for 13 years with my husband Don.  I have been running the Ladies Day / Men's Day Programs for longer than I can remember, and I love doing it.  Skiing is a big part of our family's life, especially on powder days!

Rachel Wooley

Qualifications: CSIA Level 3, CANSI Level 1, CSCF Level 1

Favourite Run: Glade Runner

First visited Silver Star in 1999 and fell in love with the resort and people.  Subsequent years led to longer holidays and my experience with lessons led me to change my life to enable me to teach here in the winter and continue working in Accountancy or IT during the summer.  I have now been teaching since 2005 and enjoy sharing my passion for skiing and the variety each day offers. My most memorable skiing moment is the first time I put ski boots on. My most memorable teaching moments are when a person realizes their ambition but mostly when fear is replaced by a smile.

Richard Calvert

Qualifications: CASI Level 1

Favourite Run: Powder makes everything my favourite run!

I am originally from Edmonton (very flat), which was not a great mix for my love of mountains and deep steep tree lines. So I have been travelling around BC for the past 3 years looking for great snow. This season I ended up in Silver Star which I’m super excited about because I have the opportunity to pass on my love and passion of snowboarding to everyone who comes in for a lesson. I get stoked about getting people hooked on snowboarding and learning to appreciate being outside!

Spike Kenny

Qualifications: CSAI Level 2, CSCF Level 1, AST Level 1

Favourite Runs: Black Bear and Spirit Bowl

I started skiing in Italy when I was 14, since then I have skied throughout Europe, Western Canada and in New Zealand.  The biggest thrill for me is that moment when my I see that big grin … it could be the first green or double black, or the realisation (or remembering) that skiing really is fun …. we all make that grin – for us lucky ones, we do it every day.  Amongst other things, I used to shear sheep and train sheep dogs for a living.  In my day, I would comfortably clip 300 ewes a day.

Stephen Feedham

Qualifications: CSIA Level 3, CSCF Level 2, CADS Level 1

Favourite Run: All of Them!!

I have taught in Canada and overseas.  I am a 25 plus year member of the CSIA/CSCF.  I have been fortunate enough to have run several ski schools of my own over the years and I still find Silver Star one of the best areas around.  To help someone experience the joy in skiing is the best!

Stephen Tanos

Qualifications: CSIA Level 3, CSCF Level 1

Favourite Run: Three Wise Men, steep and deep.

I came to skiing later in life, so I can easily remember the highs and the lows of learning how to ski.  That perspective helps me in my teaching.  Lessons helped me to become a better skier and they can do the same for you.  I have been teaching at Silver Star for more than 10 years.  It’s a thrill for me to use that experience to help you become the skier you want to be.

Taylor Weixl

Favourite Run: Gowabunga!

Originating from the lovely English countryside of Warwickshire, very far from any mountains, Tom learned to snowboard in 2008, while working at Mt Norquay in Banff.  During the 2008/09 season, as part of a Degree in Sports Development and Coaching Sciences, Tom attained his CASI Level 1.  After completing his degree in 2010 and attaining his CASI 2 teaching qualification, Tom worked the 2010/11 season in the French alps of Chamonix.  His goals for his first season at Silver Star, are to have fun, gain full CASI Level 2 certification, and to pass on my passion for snow riding to all ages and abilities.  Tom is hoping and dancing for lots of snow this season.

Will Childs

Qualifications: CSIA Level 2, CSCF Level 1 (Trained), DILIGAF Level 3

Favourite Run: Spirit Bowl

Will “Pork Chop” Childs originates from Grimsby, a small fishing town on the east coast of the UK. He learned to ski in Scotland at the late age of 12. After many years in the corporate world, Will and his wife decided to have a change of lifestyle and came to Canada (permanently) with the goal of skiing for as much of the year as possible. Now in his 7th season with the ski school he really enjoys the "rush" of making people smile. Wills most memorable moment on a pair of skis - being caught in an Avalanche while heli-skiing on the pan handle of Alaska, scary stuff!
