Community Involvement

Because we care

We care about the community we live, play and work in and that’s why we continue to support and participate in numerous community initiatives. As stewards for the betterment of our communities we’re concerned not only with our contribution but also with the outcome of the contribution.

We’re very proud of our involvement over the past four years in the Canadian Cancer Society’s annual Relay for Life contributing over $50,000 for their cause. Fund-raising for this event begins during the season with donation cans and special events. One of the best last year was the dunk tank where general manager Michael Sherwood gladly donated himself on the closing day of the winter season and gave guests the opportunity to drop him into a pool of water. “I didn’t think it would be so cold” commented Sherwood during the event.

Along with our team participating in the 12 hour relay we hosted a BBQ dinner, bouncy castle, tents and this past year, of course, the all-important TV live streaming of the Canucks game.

In conjunction with the Salvation Army Food Bank we host our Operation Food Drive every November. Setting up ‘shop’ in various locations around Vernon we gladly accept food donations on behalf of the food bank. More importantly, we sell opening weekend lift tickets for just $20, will every cent of the proceeds donated to the cause. Many of our staff donate their time (and often warmth) for the day, or weekend to participate, and their enthusiasm helps us to contribute thousands each year. In fact just last year over $12,000 worth of lift tickets were given out.

"To have a large local business such as Silver Star Resort taking such an interest in the social needs of our local community is very encouraging. With their example, and that of several other smaller companies, we are finding the business sector increasingly aware of the social needs, and willing to act - to do something about it," comments MacBain, community ministries director of the Salvation Army.

Join us this year on November 19th at various locations around Vernon!
