Nordic Skiing Shines at Silver Star Mountain Resort

Mon, 15/11/2004 - 12:00 am

Silver Star is world renowned for its Nordic skiing, and it just got better! With the addition of 6.5 km of new trails and the new Mountain View cabin, Nordic skiers will enjoy a total of 60 kilometres of trails, groomed nightly to perfection.

Silver Star offers many programs for all levels through the Snowsport School. The Discover Nordic program includes a one-hour lesson, a full day rental and a full day trail pass for only $39.00.

The Nordic trails encompass the entire mountain; you can even ride the Summit Chairlift and enjoy an easy gently ski down the gentle Paradise Trail back to the Village. This is great for families and people learning to Nordic ski. Whether you ride the lift or ski up to the upper network, there are numerous trails to explore including Alder Point Loop — a local favourite. Alder Point offers incredible views over Putnam Creek and glacier capped mountains.

Why are Silver Star’s Nordic trails so famous? Let us count the ways. Guests can ski right from their door, taking advantage of trails groomed to World Cup perfection. An average temperature of -5º C makes for ideal skiing conditions — a base layer and soft or wind shell are often perfect. There are many spectacular view points along the way, and the new Mountain View cabin is the perfect place to relax and enjoy lunch. The National Altitude Training Centre offers state of the art waxing facilities and a fitness centre. Free guided mountain tours will orient newcomers to our vast, varied network of beginner, intermediate, and advanced runs.

In conclusion, make this your year to Go Nordic!
