Silver Star Mountain Resort wants to help keep your kids learning during the BC Teachers Strike!

With the announcement on March 1st that the BC Teachers will be exercising their right to strike for three days commencing March 5th the Snowsports School at Silver Star sprang into action to provide a fun way to ensure your kids are looked after and learning something. "What better thing for kids to do than spend three days enjoying the fantastic mountain resort that is right in their backyard" said Snowsports School Director, Norman Kreutz. "We can provide a fun and safe environment for kids of all ages to enjoy a day of downhill skiing or snowboarding and also help parents deal with the issue of what to do with the kids for the day."

"The most important thing when we sat down to figure this out was to keep it affordable" said Ian Grant, Silver Star CEO. "I'm in the same situation as all the other families out there with kids and I wanted to make sure people saw this as a real option for the three days of the strike." Three days of return transportation from Vernon, full day supervision, lessons, lunch, lift ticket and rentals is on offer for $149. (The rate is the same if the kids do not require tickets and rentals.) If someone only wants to participate in the program for one day the rate is $59 / day.

The program is for school aged children of all skiing and snowboarding abilities and advance registration is required through the Silver Star Snowsports School. Please contact them at or by phone at 250-558-6065 to reserve your child space in this amazing program. For more information on the program, click here.

If you do not need any supervision and just want to get up and enjoy the incredible snow conditions at Silver Star the A&W 'Dub Ski Bus' brought to you in part by Sun FM and Silver Star will be operating for the three days of the Teacher's strike on its regular timetable. Leaving the Salmon Arm A&W at 7am, Vernon A&W (Anderson Way) at 8am and arriving to Silver Star at 8:30am. Fares from Salmon Arm are $15 one way, $25 return, and a Book of 5 is on sale for $75. From Vernon the rates are $10 one way, $15 return and a 'Book of 5' for $50. For full details on the A&W 'Dub Ski Bus' click here.

Silver Star Mountain Resort has been receiving regular snow falls over the past two weeks and the ski conditions are the best that they have been all season long. "It's safe to say that with these great conditions there will be a lot of kids wanting to come up and hit the slopes" says Kreutz. "We are excited to offer the opportunity for a great way to pass the three days and have them go back to school all smiles."
