DAKINE Winter Photo Challenge Wraps Up

This winter Silver Star Mountain and DAKINE collaborated to host a new photography competition throughout the whole season. The photos had to be of a freestyle nature, skier or snowboarder, and had to be snapped at Silver Star Mountain Resort during the 2008/09 season. This gave the photographers creative freedom to shoot all kinds of action all over the mountain not just in the terrain park. There was a great response to this event and a little more than 200 hundred photos were entered online to the DAKINE Photo Challenge gallery between December and April.
We’d like to thank everyone who submitted photos for this contest throughout the season and also all those that voted online for all the different pics. There were a great variety of photos entered to this contest that made it quite a challenge for the judges to pick their favorites.
In the end after careful consideration the judges narrowed the hundreds of photos to their top five favorites who will all get decked out in DAKINE gear and packs.
Fifth place goes to Mike Merrick for his photo Mertion air site, a photo taken of the Freestyle Air site below the Alpine Meadows chair. For taking Fifth Mike gets a DAKINE Reload Camera block bag, socks and toque.
Fourth place goes to Jenna Olsthoorn and her photo Serious Nose Grab, which was also taken on the Silver Star Freestyle Air site. Jenna will receive a DAKINE Girls Heli Pro pack, DAKINE socks and toque.
Third place is awarded to Nick Leboe and his photo Mertion work’n. Making the top three Nick receives a DAKINE Mission Photo bag, T-handle shovel, socks and toque for his photo entry.
Second place goes to David Peacock and his photo Grabbing Mute. David’s photo is from The TELUS Terrain Park and is a great shot from the top big air in the jump line. For grabbing second with this photo David receives a DAKINE Sequence bag, T-handle shovel, Covert pant base layer, Ridge base layer top, socks and toque.
Top photo from the first DAKINE Photo Challenge held during the winter season is awarded to Andy Campbell for his photo Showdown that was taken during the spring slopestyle competition Showdown, Throwdown, Hoedown. Andy’s photo is taken from in the trees behind the second big air in TELUS Park and captures local star Josh Bibby spinning high above the deck. For taking top honours in the DAKINE Photo Challenge Andy receives a Reload camera bag, Covert pant base layer, Ridge Crew base layer top, T-handle shovel, DAKINE socks, toque, bandana and Mustang Method series gloves. Thanks to the DAKINE Photo Challenge Andy is going to be decked out in DAKINE gear next season. Nice work Andy!
Congratulations to the top five entrants and to everyone who entered photos into the DAKINE Photo Challenge. Big thanks to DAKINE for sponsoring this event and providing some amazing prizes for this contest. It was a great season here at Silver Star and the photos definitely reflect that. Thanks to everyone who visited this Silver Star this season and enjoyed some of the great conditions we had this past winter. We look forward to seeing everyone next ski season!
