the first day of competition for the 2012 Vernon BC Winter Games and the events held at Silver Star Mountain Resort went off in snowy style with 99cm of fresh snow falling in the past 7 days!
Competitors, their families and spectators came out to the resort to take in the first day of both Alpine and Freestyle competitions and were not disappointed with what they saw. "It's been a great day. There were no real issues or hiccups, except for the snow. I thought after the last week it may let up for the events, but apparently I was wrong" laughs Silver Star Events Manager Ben Jackson.
Silver Star provided the opportunity for spectators to view both the Alpine and Freestyle events as foot passengers opening up a world sometimes difficult to see for the non-skiiers. "guests simply needed to collect a foot passenger pass from the ticket office and sign a waiver" continued Jackson.
The games have created a buzz around the resort which is sure to continue throughout the weekend at Silver Star. "I'm sure by Monday I'll fall in a heap, but for now it's all hype and adrenalin - The team is doing a fantastic job" concluded Jackson.
Sunday in particular is expected to be busy with the resorts "Family Day" deal allowing local families to ski for just $129. The deal includes lift tickets and rental equipment for one adult and two children and all the details may be found here.
