Silver Star is proud to be part of the community. We sponsor local charities & events, arts & culture, athletes & schools, and more. Our Silver Star teams volunteer throughout the year to help raise money for Cancer Care and other important research.
We care about the community we live, play and work in and that’s why we continue to support and participate in numerous community initiatives. As stewards for the betterment of our communities we’re concerned not only with our contribution but also with the outcome of the contribution.
We work hard to be a business that makes a difference in peoples lives, both on and off the mountain. You can read about some of our stories below.
RELAY FOR LIFE
We’re very proud of our involvement over the past few years in the Canadian Cancer Society’s annual Relay for Life, contributing over $50,000 for their cause.
Every year Silver Star supports and participats in the Relay, and as a team we have raised more than $10,000 each year. Fund-raising for this event begins early during the season with donation cans and special events. For 2014 we’ve already raised over $4,000. We're proud of our team, second largest fundraising team, and our new Events Manager, Devin Knopf, for being the top individual fundraiser.
Along with raising money and awareness, we also provide volunteers to assist with the set up, BBQ, Kids Zone, and tear down at the event.
It’s too late to add individuals to our team however if anyone would like raise funds or to join forces with a group, all donations can be processed through General Team Donation on the Silver Star Team Page
We are in the heart of the Okanagan and an important part of local events, charities and activities throughout the area.
Ski Resort Operations and Management, October 2014
What a success! The SROAMazing race has been getting rave reviews, and it is mostly thanks to the kindness of all of our sponsors.
On behalf of the Ski Resort Operations and Management (SROAM) class of 2015, I want to extend a heart-felt thank you for your commitment to making this event so successful. We were able to share a community-oriented outdoor afternoon full of fun with over 80 participants and hundreds of spectators.
Your vital contribution helped make our vision a reality, together with the help of all organizers, volunteers and participants. The total contribution towards the Avalanche Awareness Beyond the Boundaries Society (AABBS) comes to a grand total of $2000, which we wouldn't have been able to accomplish without your generosity.
Please know that your generous contribution is truly appreciated. Thanks again, and we hope to be able to share with you again next year in a new version of the SROAMazing Race.
Most sincerely, Ashleigh Gray

The Kelowna BCSPCA would like to thank you for supporting the 6th Annual BCSPCA Gala and being a part of our celebration of the animals.
The support from the community for this year’s fundraising event was overwhelming and helped raise over $125,000 for our local animals. We truly appreciate your support and the ski passes you donated.
It is companies such as yours who help us find our furry friends their “forever homes”. All the money raised from the gala goes to the Kelowna Branch of the BCSPCA to help abused, abandoned and unwanted animals in our community.
You made a difference in an animal’s life. We and the animals thank you for your continued support!

OPERATION FOOD DRIVE
In conjunction with the Salvation Army Food Bank we host our Operation Food Drive every November. Setting up ‘shop’ in various locations around Vernon we gladly accept food donations on behalf of the food bank. More importantly, we sell opening weekend lift tickets for just $20, will every cent of the proceeds donated to the cause. Many of our staff donate their time (and often warmth) for the day, or weekend to participate, and their enthusiasm helps us to contribute thousands each year. In fact just last year over $12,000 worth of lift tickets were given out.

Silver Star Opens Trust Fund For Family Of Avalanche Victim
Downhill mountain bike race to be launched in honor of AJ Cleary
March 10, 2014 – VERNON, BC. Silver Star Ski Resort Ltd. opened a trust fund for avalanche victim AJ Cleary’s family today. Staff and members of the community are encouraged to donate to the cause. AJ passed away as a result of being caught in an avalanche near Keefer Lake on Saturday March 8th. He worked as a part-time employee at the resort last summer and was a downhill mountain biking coach.
Silver Star is incredibly supportive of this worthy cause. Jane Cann, President of Silver Star Mountain Resort, generously contributed $1,000 to launch the fund.
“When I was approached with the idea to start a fund, it was a no brainer for me,” said Jane. “We haven’t done anything like this before but for someone that showed so much support for their community and its members, this is the least we can do for his family.”
The 34-year-old Vernon resident was an active member of the Okanagan community. He was known for his work as a nurse at the Vernon Jubilee Hospital, as well as for his dedication and commitment to mountain biking.
The avid mountain biker regularly used Silver Star’s mountain biking facility over the past several years to enjoy one of his passions. He had a reputation as a fast, skilled rider and was nicknamed ‘Turbo.’ He coached many young riders in the sport and was a source of inspiration to everyone he came in contact with.
“My wife worked with AJ at the hospital and my son was coached by him,” said Brad Baker, acting General Manager at the resort, whose idea it was to start the fund. “We’re all shocked and saddened by this news. We will remember AJ for being a passionate mountain biker that was an inspiration to all young riders.”
AJ was a member of the North Okanagan Cycling Society (NOCS) that builds, maintains, protects and advocates for new trails. A downhill mountain bike race is scheduled at Silver Star Mountain Resort for July to honor AJ. The date and more details of the event will be forthcoming.
Donations made out to the Baby Cleary Trust can be dropped off at the Vernon Jubilee Hospital Foundation Office located at 2191 32nd Street, Vernon, BC.
