The Vernon Winter Carnival Society is thrilled to announce the return of the Snow Sculpture Competition for the 2012 Winter Carnival. The event did not run this past year and was missed by the community and the participants involved. In the past, the winners from this competition represented BC at the National competition held during the Quebec Winter Carnival.
The event is once again possible due to the support of two community partners, Tourism Vernon and Silver Star Mountain Resort. "Working together is what this event is all about. We are very pleased to partner with Silver Star Resort and delighted that Vernon will once again have a presence at the Quebec Winter Carnival" says Michelle Jefferson, Manager, Tourism Services for the City of Vernon. This has always been an important event for the Winter Carnival and we welcome the community and visitors from all over to come and be a part of the opening weekend festivities. "I am thrilled we were able to put together a great partnership between the Vernon Winter Carnival, Tourism Vernon and Silver Star Mountain Resort.
This really demonstrates community and community partnership" says Dave Fletcher, Chairman, Vernon Winter Carnival Society. The sculptures will return to their home on Silver Star Mountain where they have impressed residents and visitors for many years with their incredible size and creative design. "It's always amazing to watch the sculptors working around the clock turning the snow here at the resort into a beautiful work of art. It's just too bad they don't last all winter long!" says Robin Baycroft, Silver Star Mountain Resort Services Manager. The community can view the sculptures being carved Friday February 3 - Saturday February 4th, the awards presentation will be Sunday February 5th at 11am.
The winning team will then move on to compete Nationally at the Quebec Winter Carnival the following February.
