Silver Star - Western Gem

Silver Star is truly a western gem. It offers excellent downhill for the Alpine enthusiast but it is the uniqueness of its nordic trail system that keeps bringing us back. the past two years for month long stays. My husband does both alpine and nordic but, since I do not downhill ski,I can still get the "top of the mountain" experience. The nordic partner program is excellemt as it gives guests someone with whom to ski and explore the mountain trails safely. Silver Star should be proud of its nordic program and use it as a marketing tool for the mountain. I continue to sing its praises back east (Nova Scotia and Maine). The compact village and friendliness of everyone we have encountered only adds to the positive experience of a trip to "our mountain."

People keep on coming back to Silver Star. I think it is because of the enchanting stashes and consistently good snow, the people who work and play there and the ease with which everything is organized.

I have been to a lot of resorts and Silver Star is right up there. It seems small at first and then you realize you've been there two weeks and there are a whole bunch of runs you've meant to do and haven't done - let alone all the other activities on offer.

The kids have a ball. I think the ski school is as good as you'll find anywhere - for kids or adults.

As a conference organizer, I find the conference facilities are excellent and I am always impressed by the standard of catering. Gold Star from me!

I've been coming to Silver Star since I was five years old. It is a fabulous resort catering for people with a huge range of skiing and boarding abilities and is therefore great for families.

Aside from loving Silver Star mountain, I also love the interschool’s Canada program. There is always a great bunch of kids and excellent coaches who pay attention to every detail of your skiing or riding. FROM JO KATZ

What's not to love?

Dry silky powder, cruisey groomed to steep and deep double blacks,

awesome terrain parks (where our kids love to hang),

a family friendly winter wonderland,

intimate, kiddie-safe, it has it all,

that's why we'll be back!

“Ten year old Alex found Silver Star and Interschools Program very welcoming and friendly.
The resort is small enough to be personal and all amenities handy and never crowded.
But having such a huge variety of runs and terrain and fantastic snow.
Alex 10 loved the Interschool’s Program. The instructors made the skiing so much fun as they got to try all terrains, even Double Black runs and parks and race training.
He made so many friends both on and off the slopes as the social program was also great especially the snow tubing, ice skating and ice hockey matches.
I enjoyed the Parents Academy. The level of instruction was first rate  with only 6 per group, we got to cover so much terrain.
There was never a shortage of parents to have a ski with after lunch, and of course evenings to have drinks and dinner with.
The On Mountain advise from Interschool’s Staff Rob, Marg and Steve was great.
Finding accommodation, ski guiding, places to eat, social activities for both children and parents was all organised very professionally.
They all love their work at Silver Star, and Alex and I can see why!
We will definitely return next year.

Silver Star is a sensational family skiing destination!
Everywhere you go the people are friendly and it’s not a put on. From the mountain staff to the waiters, instructors and the shuttle drivers, all are extremely friendly.
Most professional ski school we have encountered catering to all levels and ages. Great programs for adults and kids. Lachy is a boarder and had a ball in the Telus park
Blown away by the quality of the snow and the depth of terrain on offer and 2012 was only a moderate season. The powder was as good as anywhere I’ve skied in the world. Surprisingly good visibility for nearly all of our stay. The Putnam Creek area is huge with an extensive range of terrain for all skiing and boarding ability.
All restaurants are to a high standard and great value for money. It’s hard to walk past Bugaboo’s at lunchtime without being drawn in!!
We have already booked for next year.
Voted best family mountain on earth by us!

In January , we visited Silver Star with our daughter Jemma aged 12yrs & stayed in an apartment at the Snowbird Lodge.  We booked Jemma into a one week InterSchools program. The resort came highly recommended to us by our friends who we were traveling with.

We have skied many resorts in the US, Canada, Australia & Europe. Our experience at Silver Star would definitely rate as the best skiing experience we have had as a family. There are so many things we thought were outstanding & below I have listed some of them:-

  • Size of the village – this again was a very big bonus for us, being able to give Jemma so much freedom & independence, being able to ski with friends, walk safely around the village & back to the apartment. She really enjoyed this & again it made it so much easier for us as a family.
  • Fantastic snow! We were so lucky to have such great snow.
  • Interschools program – this was a fantastic experience & Jemma learnt so much in one week. They got to safely ski many runs. The program organizer Rob Osborne plus the handpicked ski coaches, were all outstanding.  Jemma felt so comfortable with the group & wants to book two weeks next time!     It was wonderful to connect with other families doing the program also & thereby make some new ski family friends.

We have not stopped raving about our time at SilverStar to friends & family back home. We definitely hope to return many times.

Thank you for everything.

I would like to thank you for the hospitality you all showed my family and friends while we were there this weekend. we had the best time. a lift operator named Hillary was particularily helpful for my son who was in a wheelchair. She deserves a big thanks for all her extra effort to help my son be comfortable and enjoy an experience he has never had before. We leave with huge smiles and lots of great memories! thanks so much!

“New Favourite Hill”

I love this hill because it has something for everyone. Not only are there great down hill ski runs for every ability but you also have the opportunity to utilize the great x-country ski trails which are groomed for both skate and classic skiers but there is also a great selection of snowshoeing trails. Not to mention their is a fun tube park and skating pond for more outdoor adventures.

If you are spending a few days here I highly recommend upgrading your ticket for a day and exploring the Sovereign Nordic Park located just down the hill for more x-country ski and snowshoe adventures. You can literally spend weeks here and feel you haven't done it all. The village is super cute with some nice restaurants, shops, and a spa. By the skating pond there is also a bowling alley for evening fun.

This resort is very kid friendly and pet friendly.

“Excellent family ski hill”

What a wonderful day you and your family will have if you choose to go to Silver Star mountain for a day of fun in the sun and snow. No matter what your outdoor interests are, you will find something to make you smile. The mountain itself is excellent for all levels of skier ability. There is a world class ski school if you want to learn either skiing or snow boarding. The little kids daycare will give your child lessons while you enjoy the beautiful valley and mountain views from any of the groomed or treed runs.

There are many other attractions as well. A skating pond, tube town, cross country ski trails and snowshoe trails as well as the after hour hot tubs. There is a little village here so you can stay on mountain and enjoy fine dining at one of the many restaurants or just grab a pizza or burger if that is your wish. Rentals are available for all of the activities offered. Come and check it out - you will return!

Firstly a massive THANK YOU to all the staff at Firelight.

This was our first overseas ski experience, and it was everything we hoped for and some. Firelight was the ideal place to stay. The rooms were perfect and the position we had in the hotel, superb. The room was clean, spacious and quiet, which we thank you for. The views stunning, and memorable, watching the chair lifts and looking at the majestic mountains each morning.

The lovely ladies/men who serviced the room, are outstanding and so very professional. The staff were helpful, and unobtrusive, making our holiday so easy and relaxed. A special thank you for arranging some storage space in the 2nd bedroom, it helped a lot, and we really appreciated it. I think that was Gemma, it was on our arrival. She is definitely the right type of young lady for reception. Nothing was too much trouble for her, and this was echoed by all the other staff.

Thank you Firelight for making a life long dream come to reality. My 2 boys, had the best holiday ever, and cried as we left firelight. Such was the impact of this wonderful holiday.

All the best to the entire staff,

"My experience with the Silverstar Snowsports School has been superb. I’ve skied over 30 years and still find room to improve. I’m a firm believer that no one is ever too old or too skilled to take a lesson. With the assistance of my Silverstar instructor I’m making the best turns of my life. Their ability to articulate subtle changes to my technique in a clear and concise manner translated into immediate success. I loved skiing before but now I REALLY love it."        James P

James P, March 2014

I’m writing this message in regards to your ski instructor James Smith. I registered my two children in three private lessons with James and I want to take a moment to share with you the outstanding experience we had.

My two children, aged six and eight years old, had previously done two group lessons in the Snow Sports School without much success. In fact, they were convinced that skiing was “no fun” and they were very reluctant to try it again. Our first lesson with James was so positive that both children were asking to go again. James was not only enthusiast and very patient, but he also built up their confidence with lots of constructive feedback. He took the time to answer all my son’s questions, making him feel comfortable and at ease. Both of my children are beginner skiers but clearly had different needs and James identified those needs and managed of their different skill levels brilliantly, keeping both of them challenged and feeling successful.

The first lesson was such a big hit, we booked two more with James and we quickly saw both kids gain the skills and confidence they needed to really enjoy skiing. By the third lesson both children were on the chairlift and skiing on their own. I get asked every day “when are we going skiing again” and “can we have another lesson with James?”

We truly appreciate the Snowsports School having such fun professional instructors, like James on staff and we hope to book more lessons with him again next season. I will be quick to share James’ name with friends and family who are looking for a great instructor.
